What Light Are You Shining_

8for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), 10 and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.  Ephesians 5:8-11 (ESV)

As we go through life, have you ever stopped to think about what light you are shining on the rest of the world? What disposition, attitude, and behaviors, you are displaying to the world? All of us have some sort of light that we shine to others every single day. Some have anger and resentment that radiates from them. Others have hatred, bigotry, and animosity that pours from their being, even without saying a word. The question again is what light are you radiating to the rest of the world?

As Christians, we are to radiate the light of God and His message to the world. We are to radiate love, grace, kindness, humility, patience, and so many other positive attributes. Does not mean that we have this wonderful life, and everything is great and there’s happiness all the time. Despite our feelings, which can be up and down, we should radiate to others the blessings that have been given to us and to our loved ones throughout our lives. Despite trials and tribulations, whether they are financial, physical, mental, or emotional health, family dynamics, etc., we still should allow the light of God to shine forth through us. By doing so, people will see the strength, faith, and belief we have that God will bring us through. You may never know that the light you shine can help someone else who is struggling to get through life’s difficulties.

This positive light from God you seek to shine comes from within. Then the question is asked, what are you filling up on in order to have God’s light shine forth? One must look to spend time in His word, listening to sermons, praying, and asking God to walk with you every day. We must be careful on what we allow to fill our thoughts and our minds. Are we filling up on the ideals of this world with its worldly lust and pleasures? Or is it Godly precepts/ principles like honor, humility, passion, empathy, love, integrity, etc? God’s ways are what we should fill up on so that when we come against the tribulations of life, we will be able to rise despite our circumstances and allow the light of God to shine through to others.

This world can be a crazy, dark place. Let us all be willing to shine God’s light wherever we go and to all we meet.
