Ultimate Love: Agape & Phileo

Today is Valentine’s Day in the United States and is celebrated in other parts of the world. With all of the commercialism, the focus is on romance, couples love.

However, the romantic, sexual, passionate love (eros), is not the highest form, nor the one most important to God. The love that God would have all of us to truly attain would be Agape & Phileo.

Agape is basically defined as the highest form of love, charity. The love of God for man, and of man for God.

Phileo is basically defined as affectionate, fondness, brotherly & friendship love.

With both combined, we will be able to fully love as God intended. To love completely (Agape), without expecting anything in return from the other person. And to really care, show compassion, with brotherly affection (Phileo) with each other.

So, however you celebrate Valentine’s Day, choose to remember, and try to show, Agape & Phileo love to others.
