Disturbing My Peace!

Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable. Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. Romans 12:17-18 (NLT)

In today’s society in the United States, as well as the rest of the world, it is so easy to come across individuals and/or groups of people who will disturb your peace! Whether it is their bigotry and hatred towards you or other groups, their anger with life in general, and looking to project it onto others, whether they have lost jobs and are having financial difficulties, or whether they are dealing with sickness and various other stressors, the list can go on and on. In the Bible, the Apostle Paul says clearly in Romans 16:17b-18 (NLT), “Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people's faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them. Such people are not serving Christ, our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests.

When you encounter difficult people, it depends on who they are and how you handle the situation. For example, if they are close family members, try to have healthy boundaries in place when having to interact with them. The same goes for friends, co-workers, and those in educational spaces. Sometimes you must interact with these individuals consistently but, do what you can to keep healthy boundaries in place and limit whenever possible, your interaction with them. Unless God is specifically telling you to witness to these people, keep your distance so that their toxicity will not infect you. As God commands us in Proverbs 22:24 (NLT), we are not to associate or befriend angry/hot-tempered people; that includes listening to their lies, their spreading vitriol, their division, and hate.

Continue praying and asking God for patience and strength for when you do encounter and deal with mean-spirited/evil people. In addition to praying for yourself, also seek to diligently pray on their behalf as well. Ask the Father to open their eyes and their hearts for them to see the error of their ways.

As for you, look to live peacefully with everyone as stated in the opening verse. God expects all His children to behave in this manner. You can seek to witness to these individuals but understand, you cannot change them. They must want to change and turn away from their evil ways. You cannot control others but, you can control your thoughts, your actions, and your response when you encounter such individuals. Look to always be a blessing and spread God’s messages of love, hope, and faith, throughout this world.

Blessings,

Angélique 💐
