Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” 1 Corinthians 15:33 (ESV)
Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm. Proverbs 13:20 (ESV)
Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, Proverbs 22:24 (ESV)
In our current society, social media is very popular and made even more so by various influencers. The definition of an influencer is this: “a person who has the power to affect others’ purchasing decisions or actions because of their authority, knowledge, position, or relationship with their audience, typically achieved through content on social media.” Being an influencer is not necessarily bad but, it can be harmful depending on your platform - what you are influencing others to do or believe in. Have you ever stopped to think how incredibly different this world would be if everyone became an influencer for God and spread His messages throughout the world.
To be an influencer for God, a person needs to keep a connection with Him, have a desire to live by His precepts, and look to have positive interactions with everyone they meet. People may not have been called influencers in Bible times but, many of the faithful witnesses throughout the Bible, who adhere to God‘s precepts on right living and behavior, were influencers for His ministry of spreading the gospel to the entire world.
Currently in this world, we are bombarded constantly with selfish thoughts, unholy sexual pleasures, money/greed, hate, prejudice, misogynistic ideals, and the list can go on and on. We have constant influence and/or are being influenced by all types of propaganda, from political, monetary, racial, ethnic, etc. People are being influenced to believe in groups and/or movements whose entire agenda is to cause division and hate; ideals that definitely go against God’s word. People seek to join/listen to these negative/detrimental influencers for several reasons; one being they need to belong and, feel they have found it within these fringe groups. The problem is, no other individual or group/movement will satisfy the longing and desire for connection, except God. This world and all its vices will always keep one searching and scratching trying to fill a void that only God can.
As we move forward in life, I pray that all of us develop a strong connection and desire to be close to God, to continue studying His word, and applying its truth to our lives. I pray we will all look to be daily influencers for God in our part of the world.
Blessings
